Switching bookkeeping tools is a big deal, especially when it means linking your bank. Below is exactly how Steightment keeps your finances safe — no jargon required.

Your bank connection is read-only

We connect to your bank through Plaid — the same secure service used by major finance apps. It is read-only: Steightment can see transactions to do your books, but it cannot move money out of your accounts. We never see or store your bank username or password.

Your data is encrypted, coming and going

Everything you send to and from Steightment travels over an encrypted connection (TLS). Your financial data is encrypted while stored (AES-256), and sensitive connection keys are encrypted separately on top of that.

Your books are walled off from everyone else

Every business on Steightment is isolated. Access is checked on the server for every request, so one company can never see another company’s numbers — verified by automated tests.

You control who gets in

Invite your bookkeeper, accountant, or tax preparer with the right level of access. They can review your work and flag questions — without you handing over full control.

Every change is tracked

Steightment keeps an audit trail of who changed what and when. If a number moves, you can see why — which is exactly what your accountant and the IRS expect.

Built on trusted infrastructure

Steightment runs on established, security-audited cloud platforms (Vercel, Neon Postgres, Cloudflare). We don’t roll our own datacenter — we stand on providers that specialize in keeping systems safe and online.

Your data is yours

You own your data. You can export it, and you can ask us to delete it. We don’t sell it, and we don’t use it to train anyone else’s models.

On the roadmap: independent audits

As Steightment grows we are working toward formal, independent security certification (SOC 2) so you don’t have to take our word for it. We’re happy to share our current security documentation on request.
